It’s A Wonderful World - The story of a man who shakes off the dust of a small New England town and changes the world in the process.
As Mr Potter said. George Bailey was a bright young man, people liked him, he was intelligent, articulate, all the qualitites that made for success…
After his surprise victory over Roosevelt, George Bailey was acclaimed as one of the visionary leaders of the time. recognizing early on the threat posed by Hitler in Germany and Mao in China, George mobilized reticent governments against them. Avoiding World War II entirely by keeping Hitler from assuming power, George turned the world’s attention on Africa and created the largest world-wide public works efforts in history, pulling the entire world from the depths of the Depression. And as for China, once convinced that Communism was a fools strategy, it was small step to enter the union as the 49th state, ensuring that all of WalMart’s goods would actually be made in America.
Mary Bailey was instrumental in the creation of the Bedford Falls Center for Literacy and Culture, known worldwide for its campaign to eradicate ignorance, and promote world peace through developing appreciation of diverse cultures. The real breakthrough occurred when the Sixteen Vowel Translation system was developed, allowing anyone to learn a foreign language in three weeks. George always claimed that without Mary’s system the annexation of China might never have taken place.
After retiring from politics, George, with his brother Harry founded the Bailey Research Institute and almost immeidately discovered Baileyranium, an isotope that not only eliminated cancerous cells in the body , but was laughably cheap to produce using seawater. Additionally a byproduct of its production was an almost imitless amount of easily harnessed power. Since the world had no need for oil, middle eastern countries were forced to develop a much smaller economy exporting sand for rebuilding hurricane damaged beaches.
George used the power produced by Baileyranium to establish true interstellar flight and founded the first moon based retirement colony, which with the lower gravity enabled frail senior ciizens to live substantially longer than their Earthbound friends. Mars proved to be the real jewel when it was discovered the red dust on its surface was almost entirely Baileyranium, ensuring an energy source for ages to come.
In their later years George and Mary spent time on the Million Angels March, in which school children from around the world all rang bells on April fifteenth to commemorate the abolishment of the income tax in the United States and the greening of the Sahara desert in Africa. Both made possible through the advances made with Baileyranium.
As for the others in Bedford Falls: Mr Potter died of an aneurism when he heard George had won the presidency. Ernie the cabdriver and Bert the policeman sold their names to Sesame Street for a tidy sum, Violet became a star, of sorts, on the internet at Violet’s Playground dot com, Zuzu became a rock star, and Uncle Billy beame a succesful televangelist after drying out at the Betty Ford Clinic. George and Mary became the longest lived residents at Bailey’s Lunaville Retirement Center.
